Handcrafted Terracotta Tiles Define the Design of SZIHN Bakery Alterla

After the successful project at the Szihn branch in Siebenhirten, the second bakery of this renowned Viennese family business has now been redesigned. At the Alterla branch, Erlaaer Schleife, 1230 Vienna, handcrafted terracotta tiles from Cotto Rustic once again played a central role in the interior design.

The herringbone-patterned floor and the terracotta-tiled counter define the design of the branch.

Herringbone Floor – Warmth and Elegance

As in the first project, the floor here was also laid in the classic herringbone pattern, adding both dynamism and a special elegance to the space. Hand-molded terracotta tiles bring natural color nuances and textures, giving every surface warmth and authenticity. The atmosphere masterfully combines modern and rustic elements – modern in harmony with Vienna’s urban trends, rustic as a symbol of tradition and craftsmanship that Szihn Bakery proudly preserves.

Sales Counter with Terracotta Slabs

A special highlight of this branch is the sales counter, clad with large terracotta slabs. Their artisanal production and natural surface add a rustic accent to the sales area and emphasize the unique character of the space. Together with the floor, they create a harmonious overall design that demonstrates how versatile terracotta can be – both functional and aesthetic.

Tradition, Sustainability and Craftsmanship

Our Cotto Rustic terracotta tiles are made exclusively from two natural raw materials – clay and water. They are fully recyclable and handcrafted using traditional methods. This makes them a perfect match for the philosophy of Szihn Bakery, which has stood for quality, craftsmanship, and consistency for decades.

A Common Thread Across All 12 Branches

This second branch shows how well terracotta works as a central design element. Szihn plans to renovate a total of 12 locations across Vienna – with terracotta becoming the common thread that makes each bakery unique while visibly conveying the brand’s core values: tradition, authenticity, and a love of craftsmanship.
